Just another day in the office.. :)

How could I not love this job?! Sweet baby Brylie was a joy to work with. He was so alert for a good chunk of our shoot, but once he fell asleep, he was out! Such a strong little guy too - at just a week old, he was already holding his head up when he was on his tummy!!

If you love this hat (as much as I do) and want to whip one up yourself, you can find the free crochet pattern HERE!

This little turtle shell pattern can be found HERE. Note: I made the hat with this pattern and it was tiny. I have kept it for the teeny tiny babies, but made another hat using THIS pattern (instead of bulky yarn, I used 2 strands of my Bernat Satin)....

And this super adorbs pattern can be found HERE! Note: I crochet quite tight, so I started my ring with 2 extra stitches and modified a few other things (sorry, I don't remember what else I changed), but this hat turned out WAY too big for a newborn!! Maybe someday I will figure out hat sizes for babies and children alike!! Maybe not.... ;)

Oh, I love baby's teeny little hands in this pic!!!

Congrats Kirsti and Vincent on your beautiful baby boy. He is perfect in every way.... :)

It's a small world....

I am so blessed to have met (and re-aquainted) with such wonderful people through photography. What an amazing shoot this was - it was fun, it was emotional, it was the reason I want to do this. And I totally get my baby fix by playing with these sweet little people for a few hours!

I LOVE this rotation!!

And I get to combine my crafting loves - I made this little owl hat for my niece, Hadley, but as it turns out I crochet very tight and it is just the right size for a newborn! :)

I love this close up collage idea....

Coming soon!

I had the pleasure of taking maternity photos this past weekend for Kirstie & Vincent and it was such a nice day for it. We took a few photos inside, but it's the outside photos that were my favorite. I look forward to meeting their little one soon!

*COLD* Day Fun

Since it is -30 outside today, I had no urge to go outside to take pictures, but I wanted to do something, so I looked back through some of my "pinsperation" and came across a couple of pins of water drops. I have always loved the way those pictures look - the smooth lines, the luminance of them, often the colors - so out came the tripod, speedlight, some very cool colored bowls, colored cardstock to change/reflect different colors, a ziploc bag and some duct tape (to tape it to the stool I had it suspended from). Super high tech.... I read that you can buy special water drop machines (which after doing this little experiment, I am certain that they would work A LOT better than my baggie, but for my first try, I am happy with the results). It took a little trial and error to get my focus just right since I wanted more drops and would squeeze the bag, causing the drops to no necessarily fall where I set my focus.

Anyways, all in all, successful project. The speedlight is a must in order to illuminate the drops, though I had it on the second lowest setting. I look forward to trying it again using different liquids (maybe something thicker, milky, etc.).

New Year, New Class

At this time of year, there is something that sparks inside of me and just makes me want to get out and do and learn. Last winter, I took a photography course through the University of Saskatchewan Centre for Continuing & Distance Education, but this year I wanted to mix it up a little. I feel confident with the manual controls on my camera and want a look at another side of photography, so I am taking a course with Shannon Brunner - a local Saskatoon photographer. Last night was our first class and I am SO excited for the next 9 weeks! There are 6 of us in the class (including myself) and I think that we will all bring something different to the table. Can't wait to see things differently! :)

Our first assignment has to do with natural light portraits. So, I strung up a shower curtain over my very sunny kitchen window and Lily and I had a little fun! Lily is in Rhythmic Gymnastics this year and she LOVES wearing her body suit (the tutu's are more for fun at home)! So, without further ado, here are a few of my favorite shots from today.

So, after loading the images onto the computer, I noticed the very harsh line across Lily's chest from where my super-sophisticated diffuser curtain (aka a $1 white shower curtain from Dollarama) ended. Oppps! Thank-you burning tool in Photoshop. I will definitely remember that and hopefully not make that mistake again! Would have been a lot less time consuming to lower the curtain than try to fix it in Photoshop!!
It wasn't all serious - Lily has MANY faces and she wanted me to share with me.

Did I mention how much I love this little girl??! <3 Oh, and my new camera kicks butt too! :D

Dreaming of Fall

Oh, how we miss being outside. This day was chilly afternoon (as far as fall afternoons go), but now I would take one of those chilly fall days vs. these freezing windy winter days in a heartbeat!! Not to mention that I had the most lovely family to photograph! Thank-you Nicky & Shane (and your beautiful girls) for being so stinking good-looking! :) You made this TOO easy!
